ABOUT COALSACK NEBULA

♥ Visible to the naked eye, the Coalsack is a well-known dark nebula that adds a striking contrast to the bright stars of the Milky Way. Located in the southern region of the Crux constellation, it's estimated to be around 600 light-years away from Earth. 

♥  The Coalsack was first observed by Spanish explorer Vincente Yanez Pinzon in 1499, and earned the moniker "Black Magellanic Cloud" in the 16th century due to its prominence in the Southern Hemisphere's sky. 

♥ According to Incan mythology, the Coalsack was created when the god Ataguchu kicked the Milky Way, causing a fragment to break off and form the Small Magellanic Cloud, while leaving behind the dark mark of the Coalsack.
